About Us
The Communities of Maspeth & Elmhurst Together, Inc. (COMET) is a not-for-profit civic association that was incorporated in 1994. COMET is dedicated to improving the quality of life in Maspeth, Elmhurst and the Winfield section of Woodside. We encourage active participation by individual members and provide guidance to those who wish to form block associations. We believe that by teaching our local residents how to report and address problems on their block, our communities will be a better place in which to live.
Over the years we have pushed the City to rezone large portions of our communities to discourage out-of-character development. We have protested against pornography stores being located in residential neighborhoods, closed massage parlors, apprehended burglars, robbers and graffiti vandals, requested the implementation of one-way streets and street signage to help reduce pedestrian and vehicular accidents. For more than a decade COMET has provided hundreds of locations for tree plantings and we are now working to teach residents the benefits of going "green". We are actively working to decrease vehicular and truck traffic in the area, providing more green space to those people who do not live close to a park, reduce authorized and unauthorized commuter van activity in our neighborhoods and reduce noise and pollution.
Our meetings are open to everyone and we encourage you to attend.
